Banks County Elementary School was awarded the Feed My School Grant! The funds from this federally funded grant will allow our School Nutrition Director, Mrs. Stacey Morgan, and our cafeteria staff to launch a full week of farm-to-school activities at Banks County Elementary with plans of hosting two more farm-to-school events over the next three years. Today, Georgia’s Commissioner of Agriculture, Gary Black, attended our Feed My School kick off pep rally! Commissioner Black awarded our art contest winners: Matthew Parr in 3rd grade (Mrs. Howard's homeroom), Shayna Vickery in 4th grade(Mrs. Rinckey's homeroom), and Kendall Dove (Mrs. Blackmon/Loggins' homeroom) and Lola Barker (Ms. Dooley's homeroom) in 5th grade. We also had a special guest, local farmer Ricky Martin, share with students about dairy farming. Our Music Makers then performed for all of our students. It was an amazing pep rally to kick off our Feed My School week! This week in our cafeteria, students will be able to eat food provided by local farmers. On Tuesday, there will be a special guest, Georgie the Dog, to read to all of our students. Thursday will be our annual Career Day and will feature numerous local farmers. We feel very fortunate to have been awarded this grant and have the opportunity to teach our students about Georgia’s agriculture! "The end result in the Feed My School for a Week program will be healthier Georgia students, decreased barriers in farm to school efforts and increased awareness as students learn and experience, both educationally and nutritionally, where their food comes from." - Commissioner Gary W. Black
