Why does it appear that the moon is covering up the entire sun if it's so much smaller? Our sweet students were thankful to find some pretty cool rocks at parent drop off this morning! #Bankscountygeorgiarocks!
After careful re-evaluation regarding the solar eclipse, Banks County Schools will be closed Monday, August 21st. The decision to close school was made based on new information and logistical considerations such as the anticipated volume of traffic relative to our area, speculation about unsafe eye wear, and the number of parents who have indicated they intend to check out students. Thank you for your understanding.
Monday, August 21st is the day of the Solar Eclipse. In an effort to allow our students to view this event in its completion and safely, we will extend the school day by 30 minutes. The school system has purchased approved safety glasses for all students and staff.
Please know that we considered a variety of options with regard to this day and whether to cancel school, release early, etc. In the end, we recognized that some of our students might not have adequate supervision, safety glasses, or the opportunity to witness this once-in-a-lifetime event without being at school. This will be the first time since 1918 that a total solar eclipse will sweep across the whole width of the United States. We thank you for supporting us as we take this opportunity to provide a remarkable educational experience for our students. BCES teachers were very excited to be issued the devices for our one-to-one initiative! Every student and teacher in the school will have a device in which to learn and explore the curriculum. We feel very fortunate to have this opportunity in Banks County!
We would like to welcome the staff who are new to BCES for the 2017-18 school year! We are excited to have you on the team. From L-R: Susan Reems, Clarissa Duncan, Ashley Cornett, Beth Seay, Michelle Madden, Sandy Crenshaw, Christy Beasley, Holly Lord, and Ricky Williams.
