Under the supervision of the livestock judging coach Kelcie Barnes, the Banks County 4-H livestock judging team placed 3rd at the state competition on Saturday. Livestock Judging is a skill set that requires knowledge of four species of animals: cattle, swine, sheep, and goats. These animals can be evaluated on either market or breeding quality. During the contest, the students are given six classes (4 animals per class) in which they must rank from best to worst. From those six classes, they will have two classes that must be defended by oral reasons. So once they finish placing the animals, they are given 15 minutes to prepare to speak in front of an official and tell why they placed the class the way they did. They also had one class in which they had to answer questions. These kids have learned many skills that can be used in their futures, no matter what they decide to do! Banks County team members include Brett Griffin, Mason Dodd, Eric Ashworth, Reagan Gilbert, Paycee Jackson, and Chloe Boling.

We had a glow party in the Leopard's Den, and the students had so much fun! Congratulations to all of the students who had less than four steps during the third nine weeks. Keep up the good work, and remember to act like a Leopard! Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 9! We will have fine arts night AND GA Milestones parent night. Student art work will be displayed in nice frames in the gym for purchase starting at 4:00. The GA Milestones parent informational meeting will be held at 5 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Following the presentation, teachers will be available on their respective hallways to field any specific questions from parents. Then, the 3rd graders will perform in the school cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. It will be a night filled with excitement! Please make plans to attend.
